How would you advise a non-believer?
Here is a scenario that I would love any and all feedback on:
You have a recently engaged forty something year old man, previously married with a pre-teen child from that marriage; who has been with a never married, thirty something year old woman for nearly eight years, who has developed a second mother-like relationship with his child.
Here is the issue: After the wedding the woman (with biological clock ticking and knowing that she would make a good mom) would like them to have a child of their own. The man, on the other hand, really does not want to have another child at this later time in his life (yet he really doesn’t want to lose her).
My answer, if to family or other believers – would be to pray on this.
In this case however, with two people who really believe that they are in full control of their lives here on earth, prayer doesn’t seem like a plausible option.
Perhaps my advice would start with letting them know that God has a plan for each and every one of us, believer and non-believer alike…even the unborn.
What if it is God’s plan for this baby to be born and to become someone the world will remember for great accomplishments and that God will bless?
What if, on the other hand, these two people were never meant to be together for life and the woman is to find, marry and have her child with some other man?
You see, this is where giving their lives to God, trusting Him and praying for His guidance would come in real handy about now. They also need to understand that it isn’t about a religion, it is about a one-on-one relationship with God and that having that relationship can bring clarity, purpose and joy to their lives.
Lord, I pray that your holy spirit descends on these two, enlightening them in this hour of need and that they acknowledge that your ways are higher than their ways.
